ACADEMY for Performing Arts Producer #6 – Open Call

To date, the Bündnis internationaler Produktionshäuser (Alliance of International Production Houses) has held three academies for experienced producers, one special alumni academy (digital edition) and one academy for producers at the very beginning of their career. In 2023, the alliance will offer its next academy, this time for a mixed group of both rookie producers and those with extensive professional experience.

The programme of the latest academy will focus on conveying the key skills that performing-arts producers need when working in German and international contexts. It will also shed light on the role played by independent producers in an era of constant change.

Competent producers are essential in the world of the independent performing arts. But what exactly are the key skills these individuals need to carry out their work effectively, that is, beyond organising, managing and accounting? How can artistic cooperation and collaboration take place on a national and international level? How can this type of cooperation be carried out in ways that tackle discrimination, inequality and other issues? What networks and funding instruments are available to producers? How is the profession changing in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and the German government’s “Neustart” funding programme for arts and culture? Which particular methods and tools are essential to collaborative undertakings and developing effective work structures? What role does the audience play in the act of producing?

The academy will consist of three four-day modules, each held in a different city at one of the alliance’s production houses. Participants will gather in workshop formats to examine various methods and tools associated with the independent performing arts, with the ultimate goal of developing new strategies and effective production models.

The academy will also include five online seminars focusing on the legal and administrative basics associated with independent production. Participation in these online seminars is optional, and they are aimed primarily at participants with little to no professional experience. The precise schedule of these online seminars will be determined at a later date.

The three modules and five online seminars of the latest ACADEMY for Performing Arts Producers will be held in German and/or English.
