1986. About 90 towns and villages around Chernobyl are evacuated. Pétro and Nadia, a married couple in their sixties at the time, refuse to leave the death zone and stay behind in their home village of Zvizdal. From 2011 to 2016, the Belgian group BERLIN accompanies the couple and portrays their life in a ghost town where there is neither electricity nor running water; but superstition and vodka. “Zvizdal” is a film performance, a multimedia experience about loneliness, survival, poverty, hope and the love of two old people. Amidst a complex screen set-up, a scale model of Nadia and Pétro’s living space is created.
