Chaya Czernowin, IRCAM & Les Percussions de Strasbourg
Christopher McIntosh
In cooperation with IRCAM Paris, the legendary institute for artistic visions and scientific-technological innovations, Chaya Czernowin is developing “POETICA”, a multi-channel composition for percussion, string instruments and voice, which will be premiered at HELLERAU on April 12 by Les Percussions de Strasbourg and Steven Schick. The project is the prelude to further collaborations with IRCAM, but also an important project in the new “Immersive Sounds” series, which focuses on current innovative and immersive concert formats and 3D audio developments at HELLERAU.
The history of the IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique), founded by Pierre Boulez, is closely interwoven with that of the Centre Pompidou, which was opened in 1977 as an interdisciplinary art and cultural center. In 1978, the Espace de Projection, an experimental hall of the IRCAM with a surface area of 375 square meters and variable acoustic properties, was inaugurated there. In addition to numerous internationally leading research and residency projects, an extensive concert season and many co-productions, the annual ManiFeste festival in particular is a highlight of the institute’s program, which will also present “POETICA” by Chaya Czernowin in Paris in June 2024.
POETICA is a co-production and commissioned work by HELLERAU, IRCAM, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, MEC Los Angeles and Brenda and Steven Schick.
The concert is supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of the Alliance of International Production Houses.
