Katja Heitmann
Motus Mori Düsseldorf
Searching for an alternative means of historiography that is neither memorised in books nor retained on digital platforms but rather recorded within the body, choreographer Katja Heitmann researches the personal motions displayed by the people of the city of Düsseldorf. Especially for tanzhaus nrw, Heitmann and her team install a movement archive dedicated to the small, and even the smallest, everyday movements. The dancers will compose unique portraits from the material collected, reclaiming it in their movements, eventually making them visible in a movement exhibition.
About the project: Katja Heitmann develops the Düsseldorf movement archive in three steps: In a Lecture Performance she introduces her method for keeping and visualizing movement and motion at tanzhaus nrw. On the following day, movements may be donated to the archive – during a one-hour interview with a dancer*, the donors’ own personal movements come under scrutiny. If people are interested, the collaboration may even intensify during more dates in April. The open artist’s workshop of the motion researchers will also be opened in April, open to all those who are interested or who would like to donate.
