Les Trucs/Karel Čapek
Der Krieg mit den Molchen
Naif, naif, triton trot and water choir! This or some such similar sound is that of a Pacific giant newt population rising to world power by threatening humanity. Distinct white noise, pelagic mewling, romance is dead! The future belongs to the newts! After their debut piece “Der Fleischgarten” at Mousonturm last year, the Frankfurt music and performance duo Les Trucs attempts a new interpretation of the literary classic “The War with the Newts” by Karel Čapek. Together with actress Beatrice Frey, multi-instrumentalist Bastian Hagedorn and all sorts of electronic devices, they flood the Mousonturm hall with text, sound and language fragments to tell Čapek’s fantastic story, written 1936 as one of the first science-fiction novels – a surprisingly prophetic ride through a world of today marked by exclusion, greed and power struggles.
