News

A weekend full of inspiration, empowerment and community solidarity lies behind us. For the sixth edition of Claiming Common Spaces, HAU became the “House of Solidarity”, focusing on the realities of life in the migration society, curated by Transforming Solidarities. The initiative brought together a variety of voices to take a stand against hatred and exclusion. Discussions, comedy, music and shared food provided the framework to listen, remember and, above all, imagine together. At a time when solidarity is needed more urgently than ever, ways and visions for inclusive coexistence were developed and exchanged. Because this is the challenge we face every day: Defending the migration society and reinventing our divided world.

Thank you to all the people who took part in this weekend – it gives us courage for the future!

Joint travel policy in the alliance of international production companies

Dec 15th 2023 – With the joint travel policy, the Alliance of International Production Houses is taking a further step towards climate-friendly production and presentation of the arts with a focus on low-emission mobility. All Alliance venues undertake to follow the guidelines adopted in the travel policy for all trips they organise. The travel policy applies from the beginning of 2024.

In line with the programme of the internationally operating institutions, regular trips are required. The further development of concepts for more sustainable forms of travel and production is therefore an important concern for us. With the travel policy, the Alliance Houses want to encourage employees, cooperation partners, artistic, technical and administrative production teams to always contribute to a culture of resource conservation. In doing so, they set a concrete starting point for further necessary changes to the work within the venues that go beyond the area of travel and touring.

The travel policy can be found here: Travel Policy

Statement on the attack against Israel

Oct 11th 2023 – We strongly condemn the terrorist attack by Hamas against Israel and the murder and abduction of civilians. We reject any form of support and downplaying of this violence and deem it as completely unacceptable. Our sympathy goes out to the relatives of the victims and to all people affected by the violence in the region.

The goal is to limit the ecological footprint in the performing arts. The new internet platform was officially launched on October 2, 2023. Production houses are involved in the conceptualization and testing of the tool. The free platform is aimed at theaters based in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland in a launch phase (until March 2024).

Artist-Labor of the Fonds Darstellende Künste on October 20 & 21, 2023 at Kampnagel Hamburg.

Since July 2023, artists and art professionals have been conducting research in 64 Artist Labs on issues related to the public sphere of the independent performing arts. The alliance of international production houses will be represented on numerous stages, panels and discussions.

Thus, on Fri. 21.10. Bündnishaus Kampnagel – Artistic Director Amelie Deuflhard together with Holger Bergmann (Fonds Darstellende Künste) opens the program of this year’s B.A.L.L. – followed by a panel discussion with, among others, Margarita Tsomou (HAU) around the transformation of dramatic landscapes. On Saturday 22.10. Point of No Return, szenische Räume im Wandel

Conference / Symposium at Zurich University of the Arts, 04.10. – 07.10.2023

The Alliance of International Production Houses participates in the research conference Point of No Return, organised by the Major Scenic Space and IPF – Institute for Performing Arts and Film of the ZHdK. The research conference aims to establish a point on the timeline from which there is no return to the current production conditions in artistic creation. The question is not whether we should change something but how. We can only achieve a turnaround towards more environmentally friendly action and future-oriented thinking in the performing arts by joining forces.

We stand in solidarity with the justice-seeking families of the Islamic republic’s countless crimes and the Woman* Life Freedom movement.

We stand in solidarity with the imprisoned in the Jails of the Islamic Republic and their families, who put their lives in danger every day.

We stand in solidarity with those who continue to push this unstoppable revolution on the streets of Iran and the world.

We stand with the courageous artists in Iran who continue to speak up under unimaginable circumstances.

We stand with the imprisoned artists, activists, journalists, students, and their brave families.

Mobile Akademie Berlin / Licence #12: Market for Useful Knowledge and Non-Knowledge

Follow the Money: Of Analogue Values, Digital Currencies and the Quantification of the World

The classic format of performative knowledge appropriation to be seen at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm an the 16th of september: 90 experts pick up the scent of money at scales small, big, and personal, showing how cryptocurrencies challenge banks and states, and close the gaps of the salable. The “Market for Useful Knowledge and Non-Knowledge” is a place for exchanging knowledge, an archive and a reading room, a stock exchange and a counselling service all at the same time.

In an arena running on the rhythm of administrative time, 90 experts from the fields of art, activism, theory and myriad of everyday careers will present their expertise: What actually is this strange medium of money that has been argued about for at least two and a half millennia? The Market for Useful Knowledge and Non-Knowledge traces the developments of money, looks at what it makes possible and what it does by adopting the refrain of investigative journalists and marriage swindlers: Follow the money!

Book a 1:1 conversation with one of 90 experts for €1 or listen to the talks via the 8 channels of the Market Radio!

The inclusive Hamburg theater group Meine Damen und Herren in the new venues of FFT Düsseldorf

With “Der Ball” (08./09.09.2023) the two-year collaboration begins!

The hall is prepared, the guests take their seats – only the hosts are still missing. The performers of the award-winning, inclusive ensemble Meine Damen und Herren are stuck in enchanted rooms – partly real, partly virtual. The audience must free them all so the ball can begin!

The ball is both a conclusion and a new beginning: My ladies and gentlemen have said goodbye to their previous ways of working as an ensemble with changing guest directors and have transformed themselves into a collective. With the 2023/24 season, FFT and Meine Damen und Herren begin a two-year collaboration: they will visit and learn from each other.

Ticket sales start on 01.08.23, www.fft-duesseldorf.de/spielplan/der-ball

The festival “Nebenan/Поруч – Independent Art from Ukraine” invites from 28.06.-02.07.2023 to performances, concerts, lectures, workshops and talks by and with Ukrainian artists and scientists. On the one hand, the contributions make visible how the war and the tense situation (existing since the annexation of Crimea in 2014) influence the biographies of the invited artists and affect their artistic practice in terms of content and form. At the same time, the program points show the multi-layered identity of Ukraine, its traditions and histories, its pop cultural influences and contemporary aesthetics. In the Festspielhaus and the Kulturgarten, HELLERAU presents artistic works and offers the opportunity for encounters, exchange and discussion.

Re_Generation Festival 05.-14.05.2023 FFT Düsseldorf

Re_Generation is a festival for pleasure, solidarity & healing. How would we like to coexist in this world, in the future? Together with the visitors, they will try to approach this question as well as additional topics around depletion, renewal, and healing. The settings in which this happens are experimental and playful, sensual: A performance in a spa, a listening session full of scents and textiles, relaxed talks at dinner… You find the programme here.

On Visibility. Kulturjournalismus heute with Nikita Dhawan, Dorte Lena Eilers, Joana Tischkau – 6.5.23 at HAU3

Online Forum VOICES IRAN

Under the title VOICES IRAN, we have launched an online gallery designed to provide a forum for submissions from Iran-based artists. In doing so, we hope to call greater attention to the struggles and dangers these individuals face. We are also eager to show our solidarity with prisoners and protesters in Iran, in this case by inviting Iranian artists to contribute their work to an ever-growing online platform. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that the protest maintains its visibility and continues to form a key part of the public discourse. The focus is initially on artists in Iran who do not have easy access to platforms. In order not to endanger any individuals, some of the contributions are published anonymously. VOICES IRAN is a project organised by the Alliance of International Production Houses and curated by Ozi Ozar and Sahar Rahimi. The first two contributions can be found here.

Spy on Me #4 @ HAU Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin

For the fourth time since 2018, HAU invites you to “Spy on Me” – the festival of artistic manoeuvrers for the digital present, supported within the framework of the Alliance of International Production Houses. After the previous two editions having taken place online, this time, we’re pleased to be able to present artists from Berlin and around the world not just virtually but also on site, in the flesh. This year’s focus is on our “New Companions” – all those devices and programmes that so naturally accompany us through our everyday lives these days, from GPS to memes, face filters and virtual assistants like Alexa or Siri. But we’re also talking about old companions that are coming back into focus due to pandemics and climate catastrophes: fungi, plants, animals, microorganisms. Now that we live in a more-than-human world that includes all natural beings and artificial creatures, the challenge is to rethink this interconnectedness. “Spy on Me #4” imagines an alternative future where technology and nature are connected not in an ecology of exploitation but rather through constructive resonance.

Letter of intent to support the voices of Ukrainian artists in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and across Europe

On the initiative of Stas Zhyrkov, Intendant Left Bank Theatre (Kyiv/Ukraine), 70 cultural institutions, including the Alliance of International Production Houses, have so far signed the following farewell declaration, which was sent to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine on March 14: letter of intend.

Statement of Solidarity with the Ukrainian people

The Alliance of International Production Houses condemns in the strongest possible terms the invasion and start of war by Russian troops in Ukraine and the related blatant violation of international law. We are shocked by the extent of the violation of human rights, the violence against the Ukrainian population and the extraordinary threat to peace in Europe.

We declare our solidarity with all peace-loving people and we stand up for the protection of democratic, open societies. As internationally working production houses, we use our contacts and networks to give a voice to and stand by threatened artists and colleagues with our means and work programmes.

Here you find statements of Ukrainian artists: VOICES FROM UKRAINE
