WAKATT

  • Dance

“Wakatt” means “our time” and the Burkina Faso-born choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly, who is one of the most important artistic voices on the African continent, has placed fear as a defining motif of our present at the centre of his stirring choreography. He explores the omnipresent fear of the Other and of a future marked by great challenges. The work, which was created in various African and European countries, also addresses Coulibaly’s experiences with the COVID 19 pandemic. Through their dance and body language, which incorporates daily reality and social changes, Coulibaly and his dancers create a community that deals with the challenges of our time.

After the performance on 09.07. there will be an audience discussion.

Duration: 1 h 15 min.

Biography

Serge Aimé Coulibaly, born 1972 in Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso), is a dancer and choreographer. He was trained by the FEEREN company in Burkina Faso and at Le Centre National Chorégraphique de Nantes. Since he set up his Faso Danse Theater company in 2002, his productions have been presented all over Europe and Africa and also been invited to several festivals. Since the beginning of his career he also collaborates with several other artists and regularly works on international productions, both as a performer and choreographer. Collaborations include productions with Moïse Touré, with the Marrukegu Company, with Julie Dossavi, with Alain Platel and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui at les ballets C de la B. To provide a place for experimentation and concrete reflection for his creations and his concept of artistic commitment, Serge Aimé Coulibaly set up ANKATA in Bobo Dioulasso: an International Laboratory for Research and Production in the Performing Arts. It is open to everyone and is a crossroads for exchanges between different continents, disciplines and communities with the common aim of inventing the future.
