Ursina Tossi
Revenants
Choreographer Ursina Tossi releases ghosts in “Revenants”; ghosts who demand a female gaze on politics and (pop)culture. They come from the future to rewrite the past. Six restless spirits try to intervene in the conflicts around patriarchy and capitalist power structures: As freedom fighters, accomplices and rivals, they revive forgotten historical events, finding new, feminist narratives for these occurrences. Therein, the atmosphere changes between dark and futuristic, animalistic and archaic, as well as monstrous and electrifyingly humorous.
Choreographer Ursina Tossi melds dance, media and political issues with an intense physicalness in her choreographies. She refers to pop culture, mythology, fictitious and historical sources while challenging concepts of gender, species, technology and the body.
She received the Three Year Grant of the City of Hamburg in 2019 as well as the Promising Talent Award of trade publication tanz in the same year. She most recently guested in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2020, showing “Witches” at Dortmund festival Favoriten which presents innovative artistic approaches and modes of expression biannually.
