Some of the most seminal freelance groups have been in existence for more than 15 years, in a scene that is rather informed by project work than by continuous and solidarity-driven organisational forms. The high level of aesthetic and organisational self-determination involves precarious social relations. How do those groups, which have established diverse, even international work links, view contradictions and taboos within this model? What kind of structural change in production methods, support andinstitutional framework is required to develop sustainable perspectives for freelance theatre work?
