Nicoleta Esinencu
Sinfonie des Fortschritts

  • Performance

We live in a society committed to progress: democratic, scientific and technological progress that is supposed to bring us social justice, prosperity and a good life. It is precisely this idyllic concept of progress that Nicoleta Esinencu focuses on in her new work: The author and director shows how capitalism relentlessly creates new forms of exploitation and colonization, control and punishment, that are intensified under the conditions of the pandemic. This is reflected directly in relations between East and West and in a form of democracy in which democratic decisions are made systematically at the expense of underprivileged sections of the population.
