Residency programs in cooperation with the Fonds Darstellende Künste

As part of the NEUSTART KULTUR rescue package of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) and the #TakeThat funding programs of the Performing Arts Fund, the Alliance of International Production Houses supports these programs by awarding and implementing #TakeCareResidencies and #TakeHeartResidencies. With “DACH”, the Fonds Darstellende Künste has initiated and implemented a residency program for Ukrainian artists in Germany with funding from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and in cooperation with the three networks operating nationwide, the Alliance of International Production Houses, the Bundesnetzwerk flausen+ and the Netzwerk Freier Theater.

#TakeCareResidencies

This residency program aimed to accompany and strengthen selected independent artists and groups, who were existentially affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions in the cultural sector, for at least 2 months each. The Fonds Darstellende Künste e.V. was responsible for the procedure in cooperation with the Alliance of International Production Houses. The board of trustees of the Fonds Darstellende Künste decided on the selection of artists, groups and residency projects. The residencies were endowed with € 2,500 per month; within the scope of their possibilities, the production houses supported the residency artists in their open-ended research and conceptual projects. Here you can find the names of the artists and groups whose residency projects were approved in the first funding rounds.

Applications could be submitted online from November 15, 2020 and exclusively to the Fonds Darstellende Künste. For the application, the residency certificate of one of the 7 alliance houses must have been available. The earliest possible start date for #TakeCareResidencies was November 1, 2020, and the program ended on August 31, 2021.

A total of € 3.7 million was available for the Alliance’s #TakeCareResidency program. Thanks to the support of the BKM and the initiative of the Fonds Darstellende Künste, the funding program was able to protect artistic development and advancement and to develop new strategies for dealing with the pandemic.

#TakeCareResidencies is a funding program of the Bündnis internationaler Produktionshäuser e.V. within the framework of the program Neustart Kultur supported by the Fonds Darstellende Künste e.V. and funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media: #TakeThat.

#TakeHeart

With #TakeHeart, the Performing Arts Fund continued its comprehensive funding measures as part of NEUSTART KULTUR – the rescue and future package for the cultural and media sector financed by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM). The aim of the new program lines was to mitigate the effects of the Corona pandemic in the cultural sector, to promote the resumption of cultural life in Germany, and to provide artists with planning security and at the same time new forward-looking perspectives for the development of the independent performing arts.

The residency funding was an updated version of the Fund’s previous scholarship-like funding programs and was aimed at self-commissioned artists and groups, as well as people working as curators in the independent performing arts. In addition, graduates of state and state-recognized art colleges and art-scientific courses of study in the field of the performing arts whose studies were completed after 01.01.2019 were eligible to apply.

Further information on residency funding can be found here.

The names of the individual artists and groups from the five application rounds of the #TakeHeart residency funding of the Fonds Darstellende Künste funded by the Alliance of International Production Houses can now be found here.

For the first time, the #TakeHeart residency funding also included support for young professionals: Graduates with recognized artistic degrees for the independent performing arts were eligible for funding of 5,000 euros in fees for an open-ended project through the Alliance of International Production Houses as part of the Graduates Program. The program served to support the entry into the profession under conditions made more difficult by the pandemic. The aim was to enable graduates to network with each other and to establish connections to artistic production venues, as well as to receive qualifying support from these venues at the beginning of their artistic careers. The Alliance’s program included mentored network meetings, peer-to-peer programs, and qualifying measures for producing in the independent performing arts.

The residency support is a funding program of the Fonds Darstellende Künste e.V. within the framework of Neustart Kultur: #TakeHeart, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. Realized by the Bündnis internationaler Produktionshäuser, the Netzwerk freier Theater and the flausen+bundesnetzwerk.

“DACH”

Under the title “DACH” – synonymous in both German and Ukrainian – the Performing Arts Fund, with funding from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and in collaboration with the three networks operating nationwide, the Alliance of International Production Houses, the federal network flausen+ and the Network of Independent Theaters, initiated – and has since implemented – a residency program for Ukrainian artists in Germany. In view of the war on the European continent, the partners are sending a strong signal of solidarity and transnational work in the independent performing arts.
