MIRE

An expansive cylindrical form occupies the stage. A giant mirror floats below the ceiling. Audiences can tap into choreographic installation MIRE by direct interaction, and it may as well be experienced laying down. Through slits in the partitions, a fragmented gaze upon twelve naked dancers creating a kaleidoscope of bodies and movement inside the installation, in cyclical synchronised choreography, unfolds. When looking up into the mirror, the living fresco of dancers opens up another perspective that simultaneously reflects on the view in relation to our own body. MIRE arouses associations of a contemporary Kaiser-Panorama, a mass medium popular around the turn of the 20th century, and it develops a hypnotic pull that is reminiscent of the effect digital screens of our present may exert.

Swiss choreographer Jasmine Morand began her career as a dancer. Her works find inspiration, in both fine and visual arts as well as in new technologies, in equal parts. The resulting work continually reforms anew in a movement between physical and digital impressions. Jasmine Morand set up the Prototype Status company in 2008. In 2013, she won the Dance Award of the Swiss Fondation Vaudoise pour la Culture and received the Swiss Culture Award for Performing Arts in 2021.
